Serves: 4 portions / 4 burgers
Preparation: 20 mins

Tip:
These burgers also taste excellent using veggie burgers! Children can easily help prepare this quick and simple recipe. However, an apron would be a good idea, because otherwise it could get a little messy. Bright colours or cute patterns or pictures help make wearing them much more enjoyable.

Instructions:

  1. First, all the ingredients need to be measured out in the correct amounts. The onions and red capsicum should be cut by you and the children together, but the tomatoes and beetroot can be cut by your little ones, using an appropriate children's knife – and with help from you.
  2. Those who have little ones can also let them wash the lettuce head and pull the lettuce leaves off of it. The cress, however, should be picked by yourself to ensure it's done cleanly and from just above the soil.
  3. The previously-grilled patties are briefly placed beneath a heated grill and grilled on both sides until crispy-brown. Older children can help here, but only under supervision. It's all too easy for them to burn themselves in this situation.
  4. In the meantime, cut the wholemeal rolls in two and lightly grill the halves until they become crispy.
  5. The mini master chefs can now spread the toasted halves with tomato puree and pesto. Then top the bread roll halves alternately with vegetables or patties. Your children can help here too and stack the ingredients on the hamburger buns.
