Spaghetti Bolognese

spaghetti bolognese
Ingredients:
  • 350 g spaghetti
  • 50 g diced ham
  • 1 onion
  • 40 g celery
  • 1 carrot
  • 25 g butter
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 250 g minced meat
  • 1 tin of tomato puree
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • ¼ l stock
  • Pepper, salt
  • Oregano, freshly chopped
  • Fresh parmesan (if desired)
Serves: 4 portions
Preparation: 40 mins

Tip:
The longer the sauce cooks for, the more delicious it'll taste. So, those who've got the time, should begin making the sauce 2 hours before meal time. Doing so will allow the flavours to fully unfurl and the sauce to become wonderfully smooth.

Instructions:

  1. First peel and chop the onion. Dice the carrots as small as possible. The same too for the celery.
  2. If not already, your little helpers should now be equipped with aprons. Heat and melt the butter in a frying pan. Then your children can fry the diced ham until it is crispy. The finely chopped vegetables can also be added and fried. Stir frequently while doing so. Then help your children to tip the fried vegetables into a large saucepan.
  3. Now, using the frying pan you just used, fry the minced meat with a little oil until it is crumbly. Add the tomato puree and chopped tomatoes and then tip everything into the large saucepan containing the vegetables.
  4. 4. Add stock and allow to simmer on a low heat for approx. 45 minutes.
  5. In the meantime, boil the spaghetti in salted water for 10 minutes, until al dente. Then sieve and place in a bowl.
  6. Lastly, season the sauce with salt, pepper and freshly chopped oregano. Those who wish to can also grate fresh parmesan over the meal.
