Child Headaches

You’d be forgiven for thinking that children don’t suffer with headaches. They are generally regarded as ‘adult’ conditions. But in actual fact, most children get at least one headache a year.

What causes headaches?

Many children develop a headache when they get a feverish illness of any sort. Other causes include sinusitis, toothache and eyesight problems. Usually headaches aren’t a sign of anything serious. But if you’re worried by your child’s headache, or it’s accompanied by a rash that doesn’t go away when pressed, see your doctor right away.

An infant with meningitis requires urgent medical attention. You should make sure you are aware of the symptoms of this life threatening illness. Further information is available from The Meningitis Research Foundation.

What are the symptoms of headaches?

Headaches are normally caused by raised pressure in the skull. So if your child’s got one, you might find that their pain gets worse when they lie down. They might also be sick first thing in the morning.
